Family History: A benefit you may not know about
Family history has become increasingly popular in today's society. While many like to feel connected to their roots: know where they came from and what royalty they are related to. Other look at their history to find out their genetic make is and if their family is more pron to heart problems or diabetes or autism. But there may be another reason you might want to look into your history. Family relationships also tend to come down through the ages. For example if Jimmy's grandparents divorced and his parents divorced, the likelihood of him getting a divorce is higher. This is because divorce is a learned habit. You do what you know. Or another example is boys that have aggressive fathers are more likely to be aggressive themselves when they get into a relationship. It has also been found that family characteristic go through a four-generation cycle.
But there is hope! Though family history a person can learn about their families or their spouses family characteristics. If their is a pattern that you don't want to continue do not fear! By recognizing that there is something you want to change you have taken the first step to changing it! Of course this goes both ways if you see something awesome in your family that you learned from your parents then you can rejoice and feel grateful.
All in all you can learn a lot by looking into the past of your family.
